About Us
Our History
Founded in 2009 at Shaker High School in Latham, NY, Shaker Robotics has grown from a small group of ten students to a robust organization of over 90 members. Guided by our group of industry and parent mentors, we simulate a professional engineering environment, preparing our members for the challenges of the modern workforce.
Our Mission
The mission of Shaker Robotics, FRC Team 2791, is to empower students to become the next generation of STEM innovators and community leaders. Operating as a student-run, mentor-guided team, we use the rigorous and fast-paced challenge of our 12-week competitive robotics season to teach real-world skills in engineering, programming, business management, and teamwork. As Shaker Robotics, we are dedicated to fostering an empowering and inclusive environment, advancing initiatives like #FIRSTLikeAGirl, and sharing our passion for technology with the broader community to inspire the leaders of tomorrow, today.

#FIRSTLikeAGirl
Shaker Robotics is proud to serve as a #FIRSTLikeAGirl ambassador team. #FIRSTLikeAGirl is a community dedicated to empowering girls and women in FIRST robotics by building connections, increasing representation and creating opportunities for them to grow as STEM leaders. As ambassadors, we are committed to inclusivity and actively work to increase female participation in STEM through targeted demonstrations and hosting activities for our team and community.
Demographics
Our team serves 90-plus students a year, working hard to produce the best robot possible. Our team is made up of 30% females and 70% males. Our students come from grades 9-12 with about equal amounts per grade. Our students are supported by a dedicated group of 10 adult mentors who are parents, alumni, teachers, and industry professionals. Our students work in a professional machine shop to manufacture our robot parts. Students gain experience in CAD, milling, turning, assembly, wiring, programming, strategy, and robot maintenance.

Why Support Us
Operating a world-class robotics team requires an annual budget of approximately $75,000. The team is self-funded with coaching and facilities support from the North Colonie School District. Your support directly funds robot materials, competition registration fees, and travel expenses that make this program accessible to all students.
